• Chamber's 1st Commercial Arbitration Training Session Ends

    On Wednesday, October 14, 2009 the first phase of a practical training program on the basic rules in commercial arbitration (Arbitration 1) was concluded. The 4 day training program, attended by trainees and specialists from all over the Gulf region, was organized by Asharqia Chamber in collaboration with the GCC Center for Commercial Arbitration. 

    Legal Advisor, Talal Soufan, discussed several topics during the session including: the types of arbitration and their pre-conditions, the consequences of an arbitration agreement, the reasons for choosing to settle disputes through arbitration agreement,  and the difference between arbitration and the court sytem.  He also discussed forms of conciliation, reconciliation, the definition of business agents and charters, and how to gain experience and background knowledge. Participants in the training session also took part in a workshop on the pre-conditions for successful arbitration and the consequences of arbitration agreements.

    Soufan said: "The course aims to develop legal and judicial skills relevant to the arbitration process and to teach the fundamaentals of arbitration including: special judicial proceedures, comprehensive understanding of the importance of arbitration agreements, arbritration proceedures, and the mechanisms of final adjudication." 

    Abdur-Rahman Al-Waabil, Asharqia Chamber's Assistant Secretary General of Consumer Services, said: "We hope that Chamber's cooperation with the GCC Center for Commercial Arbitration produces well trained arbritrators who will enrich this sector. He also said that this series of courses and lectures had achieved its present goals and that we aspire to achieve even higher goals in the near future.

    The Organizing Committee honored all of the participants with certificates.
